Ok, so in my last post I said I was swearing them off for good. Yea right. :( Since then I've played in a few and no cashes. Maybe one of these days I'll learn.

On a much more positive note I've been doing great in cash games. A couple nights ago I took home $430 playing 5/10 shorthanded on Battlefield. I really don't know if I'm just getting lucky or if I'm playing well. I'm sure time will tell but for now I'm happy with the results.

Really...I don't know why I play these things. Honestly I'm probably not very good at them but I also get crushed often. (another bad beat story to follow) Yesterday I'm holding KK and I raise 4x the BB and get one caller. 89T comes out so I push hard to hopefully get him off any draws or have him call with something like AT. He calls and flips over 66 and what do you know the 7 comes on the river. Today I'm starting a new streak of days without playing a multi.

I've also been taking more shots at 5/10. I know, I know. It's out of my bankroll but I always go into it with the understanding that if I lose my buyin that I'll immediately move back down. I've done this at least 4 times and either broke even or come out a winner. In fact I've probably made about $600 at this level so I don't mind continuing to take shots, still keeping my understanding, because that has made me some good money lately. I really don't think the play is that much better anyway.

That's all for now. After my crushing blow about a month ago I'm now steadily moving up again.

Casino Coushatta

Tonight I made the 1 1/2 drive to a casino called Casino Coushatta. It's really a pretty good casino with a nice poker room. Just not a lot to do around it. Unfortunately they only offer 3/6 holdem and 5/5 NL. I can't get them to put in a 1/2 NL. Anyway the night was all over the place. I jumped on one of the 3/6 tables and didn't get anything for a while until I woke up to q's. Unfortunately I flopped a set but the other guy hit a flush. After that though I went on a nice run to profit $80.

Later my brother shows up and I give him the 80 to go play with while I jump in the nightly multi. This is where I need to stop and say that I am swearing off multis. Honestly, why bother. I have placed in a few but overall I have to be a big loser. I guess I'm just frustrated from a hand last night. Blinds are 100/200 and I'm on the bb with 5/7. EP calls and I get in for free. The flop is 468! EP bets 600 so I'm like "bring it on cuz" and I just call. The turn is a 7 and this guys goes all in for 4k. I of course call thinking he maybe had a set or big over pair but he didn't. He had the nuts holding 9T!!!!! And it's all over. Over all that tourney cost me like $75.

After that my brother brings me a $100 bill after he profited $75 so I made a little $20 profit doing nothing.

I don't know why but I was in the mood for a little "Let it Ride". Dropped $50 there and then said out loud "I'd have a better chance at the slots". So that's exactly what I did. I threw in $40 in a slot machine and within two minutes I had 2 300 coin pulls so I made $80 there.

So after all that I actually walked away up $60.

I know, I know, boring post but that's how the night went.

As far as online goes I've been jumping up a little to 3/6 and for fun took a couple shots at 5/10. I'd like that to be my home in a couple months. It's crazy the runs that can be put together at these levels compared to 1/2 and below. Of course the opposite is true also. I'm really trying to master these shorthanded levels. There is a lot of money to be made if you know what you are doing. Unfortunately I don't always know what I'm doing.

Crawling Back

Not that anyone really reads this but if you do you'll notice that it's been about three weeks since my last post. The reason is nothing but embarrasement. I became the definition of a donkey. I lost about $150 getting hit in the face and then I did the worst thing I could possibly do. I tried to win it all back by raising up in levels. The deck continued to crush me and now I lost that much more money because of the higher stakes. All in all I dropped about $600+ in 2-3 days.

So I had $1000 sitting in neteller and $50 in rakeback on Battlefield. I cashed the $50 out and decided to do what I could with that. It's taken me three weeks but I've made about $700 back bringing me close to where I was before. Lesson learned...I hope.

One nice boost to my bankroll happened a couple nights ago in a $15 multi on Battlefield. I made the final table as the short stack but ended up taking the chip lead with four left. It was then that I took a huge hit on a perfect hand for the other guy. Here is the hand.

I make a small bet assuming he has nothing just hoping to just maybe get a call. It's then that he makes a huge raise on me. I was a little confused by this becuase we are getting close to the big money and I didn't think he'd risk that much of his stack on a bluff. I push the rest of my money and he calls me immediately. Turns out he was holding A9. I had him on the flop but then it was all his on the turn. That's poker. AAA99 vs. 999AA. So I go from 1st with 85k to 4th with 30k and am never able to move up again. I ended up taking 4th for $240.

Lately I've been playing shorthanded 2/4 limit. It's been working well for me. Not sure if I've got a good strategy down or not. Time will tell. I think I might play that same tourney tonight at 10:00 on Battlefield. My name is funkytown.

Not that you probably care but here are a few of my thoughts of the first show.

I thought it was great that miss "this is what I'm here for, I'm such a great athlete" lost the first challenge. And...they have to be fake. ;)
High fives to the editors for fuzzing up black chick's breasts that were falling out of her swimsuit.
What was the old ladies gang doing dropping their hardest worker on the first day - retarded.
The young guys probably have a combined IQ of 50. Nice tent.
It looks like there will have to be some merges pretty quick.
I'm liking the new twists. I would have watched regardless but it's nice to see something new.
I'm getting a little tired of Jeff Probst's Q and A time at Tribal Council. I'd be pretty pissed if I was working a plan only to have him ask questions that ruin it for me.
Why is it cool to have a guy reveal that he is an astronaut? Don't know why but I thought it was.
The immunity challenge tonight gets a 7 out of 10 from me.
I felt bad for the lady whose son died. Really sad.
"Three packs a day" guy is going to explode on someone.

As far as poker goes - tonight I finished up my February bonus on 365. Unfortunately I finished down $38 for the day. That happens when you lose $50 on a set over set. Happens. So with the $50 bonus from 365 I finished up $12 for the day.

Multis...Why Even Bother?

Tonight I played a little $5 multi on pokerrom. I have to admit I love playing them. I think it is a nice challenge to go up against a huge field and see how far you can go. The problem with them is that you can spend two hours playing, like I did tonight, and come up with nothing. Not only that, but at the $5-$10 level with a field of 400 or so you have to make top 5 to make any kind of $$$$$$$$$$. Anyway, I had AA early and about doubled up and then never was able to catch any steam. I had to constantly deal with hands like k4 and j7 - nothing to raise or even call with. So I came up about 14 people short of the cash. Even though my results are rarely good in them (minus the one a couple days ago) I'm sure I'll keep donating.

After that was over I decided to chip away at my 365 February bonus. Instead of playing 2 shorthanded tables like I usually do I decided to play 4 full tables at the .50/1.00 level. I ran into some decent hands and picked up a couple lucky ones. My lucky hand of the night was when my QQ was up against KK all in preflop and I caught runner, runner for a flush. I guess I could have typed in "sorry" like some people do but forget that. I've taken my fair share of those.

Took a brake from Battlefield to head over to 365 and take advantage of its Feb. $50 bonus. I have to clear 500 hands to get the full bonus. To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth doing because I have to raise up a level to qualify. So far I've got in about half the hands. I was up as much as $100 but finished up $50. The last hand I played the guy flopped a flush on the flop to beat my rivered straight. What really sucks is that he hit a flush on me just two hands earlier. So that one sucka took my whole buy-in on that table. Oh well. I'm still up for the day.

A Little Change

Today I decided to do something besides NL so I joined a $10 fixed limit multi. For the most part I didn't try to do anything special. Since it was limit and I knew it would be hard to take people off of hands I waited for good hands and then pushed them hard. I ended up taking 4th out of 108 for $102.

On a side not I think I got a little cheated at the final table. There were four of us left and two guys from the same town went to the flop. Long story short there was 20k in the pot with the river to come. One guy goes all in for his last 1800 and the other guy folds! Who knows though. Just seemed kind of shady.

More importantly I am over halfway to my goal of $2500. Hopefully I don't jinx myself by bringing that up. I'm looking forward to my Tunica trip where I'm sure I'll blow most of it.

Moving Up?

Tonight I thought I would move up without putting a huge risk on my BR. I bought into .25/.50 for $25 with the idea that if I doubled up I would move up to .50/1. It didn't take long until that was done so I moved up and bought in for $50. Before I knew it I had $136. I took $75 of that and moved up to 1/2. I know it's only two levels up but the play is completely different. It is definitely more about playing poker while the first level seems to be more about discipline - waiting for the many fish to make mistakes. Anyway, my $75 dwindled down to $10 in no time but then I went on a nice little run to pull back to even and thought I would call it good.

I was hoping to just keep moving up but my lack of confidence and maybe a little common sense got the best of me.

As of now I'm still playing at .25/.50 on Battlefield because I've really never seen such horrible players.

So I guess this write up is just more of the same.

One little note is that I'm heading to Tunica in mid-February so about $800 of my BR is earmarked for that.

Battlefield Poker

I think I've found a poker home. I was loving BET365 because the games are extremely soft but was hating that I wasn't getting any rakeback so I moved over to another Prima skin - Battlefield poker that is offering 35% rakeback. I have a played a few sng's there but mainly I've been sticking to .25/.50 shorthanded. I've probably played 25 sessions since moving over and I've probably had a positive session in 75% of them.

My dilemma now is do I move up or do I stay where I am at where I've had some decent success. The answer would seem to be simple - stay where you are having success. I know though that there is more money at the higher levels but probably better players too. My plan is to stick it out here for a while and if I continue to have success move up a level and see how I do.
I have to say I love Prima. While they do have some good players there are many just throwing their money away. Anyway, moving up on the bank roll and I hope it stays that way.

BET365 Freeroll

For the past two weeks all I've been doing is hovering. There hasn't been any major dips or major gains. I'm mostly been playing 1/2 limit.

However today I entered into the 30k freeroll on BET365 since I qualified by playing at least 250 raked hands in December. I figured what do I have to lose - plus the payouts where very good starting at $60 for 80th and $6000 for 1st. There were 3700+ entrants which put my chances for success at about slim to none. I started out very slow just surviving the first hour. In the second hour I built my stack up to about 7500 hundred and stayed there for what seemed like days. I was catching no cards but managed to steal the blinds at least once per round. I made a dip to 4000 and then in two hands I doubled up twice. Throughout the rest I battled as best as I could and guess what - I cashed. Not only did I cash but I took 19th place for a cool $300!!! Of course all I could think about was how close I came to 6k but when I stopped and really thought about it I realized I outlasted over 3600 people plus added a nice chunk to the bankroll.

Later that night I made about $35 in shorthanded .25/.50 NL and then gave back $5 in a little sng.

I probably won't see another day like this in a while so I'll take it.

Today I finally received my sign up bonus from BET365 for a cool $100 so I started on my 500 raked hands at 1/2 for the December bonus. To say it started out rough would be an understatement. I bought in for $50 on two tables and before I knew it I was down about $50. I got extremely tight just trying to clear the hands. I eventually finished down $75 which was a big hit to the old bankroll.

Unfortunately I still have about 300 hands to go to clear the bonus so I bought in for $40 on three tables. Again I was down early when my K high flush lost to an A high flush (four spades on the board). After that though I went on a pretty good run. I was playing well and the cards were falling nicely. Thankfully I almost made all of my previous loss back.

I also played some $5 sng's on party that morning placing in 3/4. These sng's seem to be pretty easy to place in. Three words sum up my strategy: patience, patience, patience. Poker doesn't really begin until you get down to about four people because the structure and the players don't really allow for it. 800 in starting chips doesn't give a lot of wiggle room and the players call down with anything. Why can't the BB ever fold his hand to a raise??? So for me I simply wait for quality hands and push with them. You get paid off almost every time. Then when you get down to 4 handed you can begin to push your weight around a little because everyone wants to make the $$$$$$$$$$. It's a simple strategy but it paid me about $40 today.

Right now I'm not very happy with bet365. I deposited $100 on their site about 10 days ago and quickly completed the 500 raked hands for the deposit bonus. Unfortunately I have not received that from them even though I have sent four e-mails. I have only got a response back for one of them. So I should have $100 coming my way - hopefully soon.

As far as the rest of the day goes it started out slow. I played some $5 and $10 sng's and mtt's on Party and Pokerroom. I'd say I about broke even playing those. I'm not really sure what the proper strategy is for these lower buy-in multi's. I know that aggression is the key to mtt's but at these levels it seems you get 2-3 callers no matter what you bet out.

The big score of the day came at Paradise. I had about $32 left in that account after my beat down the other day so I decided to jump on a 1/2 table and see what it brought me. I played a quick session and finished +10. A couple hours later I jumped on again and finished +80! It was the exact opposite of the other night. On that night I couldn't catch a card and I kept getting out drawn but tonight almost everything held up. I know more times then not it will not the cards won't fall like this but I'll take tonight. I erased my beating from the other night plus it gave me a little profit.

To say last night was rough would be an understatement. I unfortunately lost almost 1/4 of my bankroll. I'm trying clear the 1000 hands paradise promo on PSO. I buy in for three tables at .50/1.00 with $20 on each table. It was one of those nights when nothing went right. When I would catch a flush they would catch a full house. When I would have a big pocket pair they would catch two pair. On top of that I got a little tilty when I kept getting sucked out on. The result was getting blown out on every table. I thought I'd get away from that for a little while and play a couple $5 sng's on party and again no luck.

So now I'm sitting on 711/1000 hands to complete the paradise promo. All I want to do now is complete that without losing any more so that I can get a party gift certificate from pso to cover my losses on paradise. It has definitely been anything but paradise for me.

I also have 400 hands left on bet365 to complete the bonus on there.

What a pissy night.

Oh well. Today is a new day and I'm hoping to get back in the swing of moving upward instead of downward. Winning sessions are so much more fun! :)

Here And There...And Everywhere

It's been about a week since my last post and since then I've done a little site jumping. First I got out of the paradise promo. I might go back and finish it but at the time I was bored looking ahead at another 750 raked hands at .50/1.00 full. After that I jumped on empire for a while and cleared their little bonus. It was so easy. While their bonuses don't seem near as attractive as the one's at sites like Full Tilt and Absolute they are extremely easy to clear. I also got a rakeback started at empire in case I make it a more permanent home in the future.

About three days after joining empire I got in the mood for trying another promo with PSO so I tried their Titan promo. What a mistake!!! I absolutely hated their site. It takes 6000 stars and after a couple hours of 1/2 full I had only cleared a little over 200 of them. I said no thanks to that. (My friend calls me a puss for not finishing these promos.)

After Titan it was off to Party to clear a little Christmas bonus they are offering. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to clear their bonus for $36 plus I made about $20 on top of that playing .50/1.00 full (4 tabling).

I like taking advantage of bonuses and yet I also like being on a site that is comfortable for me - I like having that home site. When I first started online I was on Pokerroom for over a year before I learned about things like bonus whoring, instant bankroll, etc. Right now it is more profitable jumping around but I do look forward to hopefully being good enough to be able to stay in one place and make a profit solely from my play.

So what to do now? I saw a nice bonus with BET365 that I'm thinking about taking advantage of. I think they also have a December re-load bonus that you can get without even reloading. Anyway, we'll see. I'm sure you'll find out later if I continue to move up or take the inevitable plunge.

Finally got my pin # today from Caribbean so I hurry to make the withdrawal. After three hours I still have no money so I e-mail them and they tell me that I'm going to have to wait three days for the withdrawal process to go through. What a rip off (Two weeks for the pin plus three to be processed).

With the money I had on CD poker I decided to started a promotion for 6000 points through PSO. You have to get complete 1000 raked hands to complete the promotion. To make the process go faster I am playing three tables of .50/1.00 full because they don't offer shorthanded at those levels.

This definitely doesn't make for very exciting poker. As I said in the first post, I'd rather stiff farts for a living then play at these levels but hey, the gift certificate from the promotion will be nice around Christmas. I just don't have enough money on the site yet to go up a level. Sorry for the boring post, but all I've had is boring poker.

Short Session

Jumped on CD Poker tonight for a very short session. I had 87 in that account and I wanted to get it to a hundred so I could cash out and do a promotion on Paradise Poker. Fortunantly that only took me about 10 minutes to do.

My dilemma is which makes more sense. 1) Do a promotion for points with pokersource. 2) Get on a site and make it my "home site" with hopefully some good rakeback. 3) Stay on CD Poker where I've done pretty good so far. Decisions, Decisions.

I don't really think I can trust in the third option because I've only been on CD Poker for two days so I can't really get a good read on if that is the site for me even though, like I said in my last post, I greatly enjoy their site.

Anyway, I'm withdrawing the money on CD so that I won't have to wait when I decide what I'm going to do. Whatever it is, hopefully I do well at it.

I had about $35 sitting in my neteller account so I thought while I waited for my Caribbean Sun mess to resolve I would throw it in a site and see what I could do. I have a buddy who has been playing on CD Poker so I gave it a try.

First let me say this is an attractive site. It doesn't have a ton of traffic (while writing this it had 1085 players) but it is easy on the eyes. It also has a cool pop up feature that shows the hand history. One negative though is why have an online support icon and yet never have someone on the other end to receive messages. I don't see any reason why every site doesn't have this up and running with quality for their players. All in all though I would definitely recommend this site. Plus some rakeback sites are offering like 30% rakeback with CD Poker.

Another plus for me personally is that I had a good night. I jumped on two tables of .50/1.00 shorthanded limit. Within an hour I had made $40. Yes, I had a few suckouts like any session but it was one of those where your top pair holds up the majority of the time. I also hit a set twice with my pocket pair. Last but not least I had a huge hand where I had A8 of diamonds. I called a preflop raise hoping for a nice board. The flop came 8 high and I bet and was quickly raised. I figured him for a strong hand but thought I would see what would come next. How about another 8 on the turn! Long story short me and this guy went at it to the end. He ended up flipping over KK when it was all said and done and I brought in a nice pot for those levels.
Thinking about playing a little SNG before bed.

Not My Night

Played in another $2 tourney tonight and I actually cashed...for a whole .31! Great for the bankroll!!! I decided to play a little 1/2 and dropped 25 in a hurry. Unfortunately I picked up two flush draws early and neither one of them hit. Almost seems impossible to throw that away at these limits. After that I played in a small $5 multi and came in 16th for no money. I really wanted to get back on the rings and "make it back" but I forced myself not to. I'm sure I'll be thankful for that in the morning, although I hate losing sessions - big or small.

Caribbean Sucks

Tried withdrawing my money from Caribbean. It turns out that when you make a deposit they sent you a pin # that takes two weeks to get to your house and of course you can't make a withdrawal until you get that pin. I do appreciate the security and yet I know it's their attempt to keep players on their site for as long as they can.

Here are a few ranking I would give to Caribbean (1-10)
Graphics - 5
Traffic - 5
Bonus - 7 (while it wasn't the easiest to clear I did get $50 plus the $40 monthly bonus)
Competition - 7 (I did come across some pretty good players but I also found some who loved to take it to the river on the chase.)
Support - 3 - I think it leaves something to be desired. The chat option had been deactivated when I tried it and I haven't heard back fr0m e-mail support with a question I had.
Withdrawal - see above

In the last couple of days while trying to figure out this neteller problem I played a couple $2 multi's for fun and came up empty on both. I did win about $12 on some 1/2 tables.

Caribbean Bonus Finally Cleared

Played two tables of 1/2 limit today. I dropped $30 pretty quick on one table but just about doubled on the other table so was even for a while. One hand in the end that really stung was when I flopped KKK with my pocket k's. Only problem was that the other guy flopped the flush. He didn't even need that fourth spade on the river either. He played me like a sucker the whole time. With that I lost about $12 and decided to call it quits.

However, the good news that you can see on the title is that I finally cleared the Bonus at Caribbean for $50.

Now to decide whether I want to stay at Caribbean or go somewhere else. Something tells me I'll be playing at another site in the near future.

Up and Down

Crazy day today. I played in three session of 1/2 limit. The first one I couldn't catch a card but managed to get away from the table only down $10 bucks. The second was pretty crazy. I got at a table with a guy who loved to spread his chips around. The only problem was at first I couldn't catch a hand to go up against him. Finally I caught about three that I took him to the river on. Still only finished up about $20. In the third session I played two tables. After an hour it wasn't looking good - I was down about $55 but somehow managed to come back and only lose about $10.

So after about four hours of play today I am up $1!!!!!!!!!

I also cleared the monthly bonus at Caribbean for an extra $40. I am also probably a couple hours away from clearing the sign-up bonus for $50. Feels like forever to get that done.

I'm also pretty excited to see my rakeback being posted on rakerebate.net. As of yesterday I have $6 and today I probably played twice as much. Not a ton but better then nothing.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Caribbean Sun. There aren't a ton of players, the graphics aren't great. I know you want to be where the fish are (although there aren't a ton at CS) but I still want to enjoy where I play. Really thinking about jumping to another site as soon as I clear this bonus. Although I'm sure my attitude would change if I went on a huge run.

Yesterday was a great day for food and football (Thanksgiving) was a horrible day for poker. Not only did not I not play very good in my morning session but it seemed as if everytime I caught a decent hand my opponent would catch a better hand. One problem was I was playing much too loose even for a shorthanded game. Making easy calls with so-so hands really adds up in the end. In the morning I lost around $70! So last night I decided to tighten up and for the most part it was successful. I ended up $6 but it could have been a lot more had it not been for two rivers. Either way I was happen to end in the positive.

On a couple bright poker notes I have 32% of cleared raked hands with Carribean to get my $50 bonus and I'm getting closer to the $40 monthly bonus. My rake is also being tracked by RakeRebate.net so I'm hoping to pull a few dollars back from that. I'll take the 32%.

Didn't like the site very much and the play was the slowest I have ever seen. Not to mention I gave up $30. Welcome to the first post of Bayou Joker - a site written by what just may be the worst player in the world. Seriously. The purpose of this blog is to write about how I actually made a buck. At least I hope that's what this blog ends up being about. I recently took one month off of poker but it wasn't by choice. It was because I was broke. The kind of broke where you pull out the lining from your pockets and the moths fly out.

I had heard about instant bankroll for about six months now. Unfortunantly I always thought it was just some scam to bring me to a sight but when I ran out of money it called for desperate measures so I gave it a try. What do you know! It worked. I applied to instantbankroll.com and five days later there it is - $75 in my party poker account. It then took me two days to clear the 500 raked hands and the money was officially mine.

Since then I have been playing .50/1.00 and 1.00/2.00 on Party and Absolute. Yes, I know, way above my bankroll but how could I resist. I'd rather sniff farts for a living then play .25/.50 and lower.

I'm also playing strictly limit. It's much much much better on my blood pressure.
